CHIROPRACTIC CARE

Chiropractic is a natural, non-invasive form of health care that focuses on the restoration and maintenance of spinal health in order to allow optimal nervous system function. Virtually every part of the body is affected by the nervous system. Muscle aches, joint pain and disorders of the internal organs may be affected by irritation to the nerves that our housed in the spinal column. A Chiropractor assesses for areas of restricted joint motion, misalignment (also known as subluxation), and abnormal qualities to the soft tissues surrounding the spine. Treatment to restore proper movement and alignment is performed with the use of gentle spinal manipulation. Other techniques may also be used, such as electrical muscle stimulation , hot or cold therapy, myofascial release and massage. At our office, the doctor may also offer advice on diet, exercise and lifestyle changes that significantly effect overall health and wellness.

Chiropractic Adjustment

As defined by the American Chiropractic Association, the most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as "spinal manipulation," also called "chiropractic adjustment." purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile or restricted in their movement.

Dr. Hinkle primarily performs what is known as diversified technique, which includes manually applying a high velocity, low force adjustment to specific joint restrictions. She has also been trained in a Sacral Occipital Technique, Activator Methods, and Logan Basic Technique. Dr. Hinkle considers each individual case to determine which techniques will be most effective.

MASSAGE THERAPY

Therapeutic massage helps the body heal itself and increases health and well-being in a number of ways. Massage improves circulation, which increases blood flow, bringing fresh oxygen to body tissues. This can assist the elimination of waste products, speed healing after injury, and enhance recovery from disease. Massage promotes general well-being and enhances self-esteem, while boosting the circulatory and immune systems to benefit blood pressure, circulation, muscle tone, digestion, and skin tone.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy (CST), as defined by the Upledger Institute, is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.

Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.

By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:

  • Migraine Headaches
  • Motor-Coordination Problems
  • Chronic Neck and Back Pain
  • Autism
  • Colic
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Fibromyalgia and other connective tissue disorders
  • Immune function
  • Scoliosis
  • Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder

Traditional Thai Massage (Nuad Boran)

The Thai tradition, Nuad Boran, translated literally as ancient massage, is based on traditional Thai medicine, Buddhist spiritual practice, and the science of Yoga. Thai yoga bodywork employs an exceptionally wide range of techniques in its repertoire. Through a "multi-pronged" approach the practitioner uses thumbs, fingers, palms, forearms, elbows, knees and feet to deliver a dynamic combination of myofascial stretching, joint mobilization, acupressure, energy balancing, rhythmic deep tissue compression, soft tissue manipulation, assisted yoga asana, and meditation. A comfortably soothing, meditative, rocking motion is its trademark, while joints are opened; muscles and tendons stretched; internal organs toned; and vitality increased. The work is performed on a floor mat. Clothing that is easy to move in is essential for this body work.

Reiki (pronounced RAY-key)

A Japanese word representing universal life energy, the energy which is all around us. It is derived from rei, meaning "free passage" or "transcendental spirit" and ki, meaning "vital life force energy" or " universal life energy". Reiki is a technique for stress reduction and relaxation, which triggers the body's natural healing abilities, and improves and maintains health. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

Infant Massage

Massage is also a wonderful way to lessen stress parent and baby. Touch conveys nurturing and love, the essential ingredients for emotional and physical growth and well being. Studies have shown increased weight gain, and immune function. Myelination of nerves is also increased. These things in turn are needed for brain and muscle development. Parents become more aware of baby's nonverbal cues. One-on-one communication instills a message of love and security. As your infant learns to relax and release stress, sounder and longer sleep is often the end result.
