Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic is a natural, non-invasive form of health care that focuses on the restoration and maintenance of spinal health in order to allow optimal nervous system function. Virtually every part of the body is affected by the nervous system. Muscle aches, joint pain and disorders of the internal organs may be affected by irritation to the nerves that our housed in the spinal column. A Chiropractor assesses for areas of restricted joint motion, misalignment (also known as subluxation), and abnormal qualities to the soft tissues surrounding the spine. Treatment to restore proper movement and alignment is performed with the use of gentle spinal manipulation. Other techniques may also be used, such as electrical muscle stimulation , hot or cold therapy, myofascial release and massage. At our office, the doctor may also offer advice on diet, exercise and lifestyle changes that significantly effect overall health and wellness.
Chiropractic Adjustment
As defined by the American Chiropractic Association, the most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as "spinal manipulation," also called "chiropractic adjustment." purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile or restricted in their movement.
Dr. Hinkle primarily performs what is known as diversified technique, which includes manually applying a high velocity, low force adjustment to specific joint restrictions. She has also been trained in a Sacral Occipital Technique, Activator Methods, and Logan Basic Technique. Dr. Hinkle considers each individual case to determine which techniques will be most effective.
Myofascial Release Technique
Myofascial release technique is a soft tissue massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia (the connective tissue that covers muscles) and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.
When muscles are overused the body can produce tough, dense scar tissue which restricts tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.
A typical myofascial release treatment includes the doctor using her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. Each individual case requires a different number of treatments which is based on how the tissues are responding to treatments and how well function has returned.
This description of myofascial release is the description given for the patented myofascial release technique called Active Release Technqiue.
Craniosacral Therapy
Massage Therapy
Helping the body heal itself and to increase health and well-being. It improves circulation, which increases blood flow, bringing fresh oxygen to body tissues. This can assist the elimination of waste products, speed healing after injury, and enhance recovery from disease. Massage promotes general well-being and enhances self-esteem, while boosting the circulatory and immune systems to benefit blood pressure, circulation, muscle tone, digestion, and skin tone.
Traditional Thai Massage (Nuad Bo Rarn)
An ancient, healing art practice that has been taught and practiced in Thailand for 2500 years. It is influenced by both Indian Ayurvedic/Yogic Medicine and Buddhist spiritual practice and has a unique character that is both relaxing and invigorating. By blending gentle rocking, rhythmic acupressure and yoga-like stretching, Thai Massage deeply opens, relaxes and revitalizes the entire body. It also helps to promote energy flow, range of motion and flexibility. Thai Massage is performed on a mat on the floor and the client should wear loose, comfortable clothing (no shorts) for the session.
Reiki (pronounced RAY-key)
A Japanese word representing universal life energy, the energy which is all around us. It is derived from rei, meaning "free passage" or "transcendental spirit" and ki, meaning "vital life force energy" or " universal life energy". It involves the transfer of energy from practitioner to client to enhance the body's natural ability to heal itself through the balancing of energy. Reiki utilizes specific techniques for restoring and balancing the natural life force energy within the body. It is a holistic, natural, hands-on energy healing system that touches on all levels: body, mind, and spirit.
Infant Massage
Having numerous benefits for baby, parents and society, loving touch lessens tension, fussiness and irritability. Digestion is aided and this can provide relief of gas and colic. Massage is also a wonderful way to lessen stress parent and baby. Touch conveys nurturing and love, the essential ingredients for emotional and physical growth and well being. Studies have shown increased weight gain, and immune function. Myelination of nerves is also increased. These things in turn are needed for brain and muscle development. Parents become more aware of baby's nonverbal cues. One-on-one communication instills a message of love and security. As your infant learns to relax and release stress, sounder and longer sleep is often the end result.
