Pregnancy & Chiropractic

Pregnancy is a time of amazing changes in a woman’s body. When pregnant, the mother must adapt and compensate for many postural and hormonal changes. Gentle, prenatal chiropractic care helps to balance the mother’s pelvis and spine, and allow for an easier birthing process. When the mother’s body is in balance, her growing child can develop in a healthier environment.

Potential benefits for pregnant women receiving chiropractic care are far-reaching.

Women receiving chiropractic care during this special time report relief of back, neck, pelvic, and joint pain, improved digestive function and reduction in morning sickness. When the nervous system of the mother is functioning at an optimal level this care has the potential to increase the likelihood of a full-term delivery, improve progression of labor and reduce delivery time, and allows baby’s ease of movement. Our Doctors are Certified in the Webster Technique

What is it?

The Webster Technique is a chiropractic analysis & gentle adjustment of the sacrum that balances pelvic muscles and ligaments, which in turn removes torsion to the woman’s uterus, its resulting constraint to the baby, and this may allow baby to get into the best possible position for birth. Even expecting moms that are progressing well in their pregnancy can benefit from the Webster Technique because it supports the nervous system of the mother and also optimizes the health and space for baby. As with all chiropractic adjustments, our intent is to improve the nervous system so the body can function better.

How does it work?

The chiropractor will give an adjustment to the mother and release tension in ligaments and other specific soft tissue structures. This process relieves muscle tension and bony misalignments in the mother’s pelvis that may be interfering with her own nervous system function, the baby’s ability to move freely in utero for development and proper positioning, as well as space and biomechanics for ease of delivery.

Why would a pregnant mom choose this technique?

The Webster Technique is natural, uses no drugs, and is gentle to the mother and child. Most importantly, the technique facilitates the correct environment to allow the birth process to proceed as nature intended, while easing discomfort in pregnancy.
